Case Study

Global Electric Company

We were approached by a Global Electric Company, a provider of fuel services, technology, and plant design for the commercial nuclear electric power industry. The Regional Director had been challenged to recruit a Procurement Supplier Relations Manager, to transition their current SCM organization to a strategic level and take control the nuclear plant purchasing activities.

They went through a major transformation program. Along the way, they found that the skill sets of many in the procurement organisation were too tactical. There are some who could be retrained, but others, unable to adapt to today’s more strategic skill requirements.

How we identify the Right Procurement Professionals

  • Negotiating skills
We understand your business requires senior procurement specialists who can fully interact with the businesses, articulate procurement’s value proposi¬tion, convince management and finance to involve procurement in their contracting and pur¬chasing activities, and be able to communicate with people at all levels, from the shop floor to Chief Exec Level.
  • Ownership of Spend
We probe each individual, helping us understand whether they owned the spend outright, or if they must went out into the business and influenced the spend. Also, we look for experiential types of qualifications.
  • Project Examples
We explore each individual’s top 5 projects they delivered i and then reflect on key their influencing and negotiation skills. For example, how was their project formed? Did the project land in their lap because someone came to them for help, or did they actively go out into the business and sell? We probe until we truly understand whether the candidate came from a centralised procurement organisation or more of a centrally led one
  • Savings Achieved
We understand how the individuals savings’ targets are measured, how each individual savings project was formed and how they went out and influenced the spend?
